The word violent, as defined by the dictionary, is an adjective that concerns an action that is intended to hurt, damage, or stop someone or something. In J.K. Rowling’s, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, “[Harry’s broom] zigzags] through the air, every now and then making violent swishing movements that almost unseated him.” (Rowling 151) The word ‘violent’ can also be used as a hyperbolic way to describe something vivid, almost as if the bright color of a ‘violent’ object is intended to hurt the viewer with its brightness. For example, when Harry enters his friend’s room, he find that “nearly everything in [it] seemed to be a violent shade of orange.” (27)
