Definition: Conceited is an adjective that describes the idea of having an excessively favorable opinion of one’s self or an exaggerated sense of self-importance. A conceited person has an inflated self-image and perceives himself or herself as a very interesting topic for conversation. These people also talk about their accomplishments and how great they are very often. In literature, it can be identified when the passage seems to have its focus on the narrator or one who is speaking, and highlighting all of their achievements.

Example: “I’m a gum chewer, normally, but when I heard about Wonka’s contest, I laid off the gum and switched to candy bars. Now of course, I’m right back on gum. In fact, I’ve been working on this piece for over three months solid. I’ve beaten the record set by my best friend, Cornelia Prinzmetal” - Violet Beauregarde (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
