The word whimsical is similar to ‘capricious’; it is used to describe something playful and fun, but fanciful and outlandish in quality. In many cases, this playfulness can be fickle, jumping between various feelings, situations, and unrealistic scenarios. Oddly enough, I can’t seem for find any literary quotes for whimsical, so the following is an exchange from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that can be descibed at whimsical: “It certainly seems [that the Dark Lord is gone],” said Dumbledore. “We have much to be thankful for. Would you care for a lemon drop?" With characteristic whimsy, Dumbledore manages to quickly convince himself that dropping off an orphan Harry Potter on a doorstep is an appropriate time for candy.
